Okay so here’s the subject we’ve not covered for a while and it’s all about SEO – search engine optimization and optimizing you, your company and you as an individual online and what’s working currently when it comes to search engine optimization – so that’s the subject of today’s podcast and by the way, it’s changed quite significantly.

Well, the subject of today’s podcast is “what’s new in SEO” and a better description will be “what’s actually working in SEO” these days particularly for recruiters and you might be listening to this podcast on iTunes. You might have subscribed on iTunes. If you’ve not then it’s well worth doing because every time you plug your little iPhone in or your iPod it’s going to update. Or you might be listening to this on the superfastrecruitment.co.uk/blog website where we always put a transcription. So whichever one is fine with us, however it’s useful to be on the website because you can read this as well.

So, the lovely subject of SEO. The eagle eyed amongst you will have noticed that we no longer offer this as a service and we used to and very successfully it was for us too. And with everything online, changes happen. We are in a very dynamic market and some of the things that were working in SEO, even up to 12 months ago, aren’t working today.

So years ago, it was a well-known fact that if you distributed lots and lots and lots of content, didn’t really matter about the quality of it but lots of content and you built lots of links, the chances were, you will be at the top of search engines. That no longer is valid. And why is that? Well, you can speculate and we have speculated on a number of occasions. However, the Google algorithm as it is well-known now, changes and changes quite rapidly.

So what Google now gives a big positive tip to is lots of great content, rich media and real quality interaction and instructional content on your website and that’s really where you need to be focusing your time, effort and resources.

So as I mentioned earlier, you might be listening to this on the Super Fast Recruitment website and you will notice that we have lots of content. And our content is responsible for a lot of our lead generation. Because obviously as marketeers, we can instruct people, we can get people lots of information, we can brand ourselves as an expert because if you’re listening to this podcast or you’re reading the content, it is pretty obvious that we got a fair idea about what’s working in the market and this is our area of expertise. And we can demonstrate that and we can really add value and help people. And that is what Google rewards us for. And that means if it does that for us, it can do it for you too.

Now some of our most popular blog posts have been around content marketing and you’ll see some of these on the website and hopefully there’ll be a link. If you’re reading this – the transcript, so you can go and have a look at those or listen to them.

content marketing

So content marketing – what’s that all about? Well, we’ve talked about it before but it’s about having good quality content in different formats so you’ll notice that you’ll get a video from us, you’ll get a podcast from us and you will get articles on our website and obviously great images so therefore you can consume all the information that we are giving to you in a very easily digestible format. And that works, that’s working for Google and it’s obviously working for you our customers and potential clients.

Now that means if it’s working for us, it will actually work in recruitment because the more content that you have on your website, the more engaging it is, the more you will brand yourself as an expert. Now a lot of recruiters that we talked to say “Oh my God, I just don’t have time to do it Denise.” Well, it’s a service that we offer or obviously there are other service providers as well. But it really is important that you focus on this now.

Whether you are a large organization, you’ve got a marketeer on board and in place, whatever you decide is fine. You just need to make sure that you do it because if you don’t, you will get left behind when it comes to search engine optimization and getting your website ranked.

Now in a previous blog post which was about blogging, how important blogging is because it’s pretty easy to do, you can get more content on your site and of course remember that Google ranks web pages. And each article that you create this is in essence a page that people could find you an online so that will really really help you.

Now as a recruiter, what’s the other place you need to make sure that you are optimizing hence the term SEO search engine optimisation. Now remember that with approaching 300 million users now on LinkedIn, LinkedIn is a huge search engine. So you need to make sure that your content that you put on your profile is also optimised for you and how people might find you.

So as a recruiter those are the two areas that you really need to focus on. You need to make sure that you have a website that has got some good content on it and regular content being uploaded that is relevant to your market whether that be a candidate or that be a client and you need to make sure that  you are doing something on LinkedIn as well. Because you know, here is a hot tip for you that some people, you know the penny hasn’t always dropped for them is the first time somebody has an interaction with you, nowadays because we can, they are going to go and check you out.

So we know that for a fact ourselves people will check us out and the first thing they’ll do is they’ll go and have a look at us on LinkedIn and then they’ll check our website out.  Then they will make a valued judgment about whether they’re going to get in contact, whether they might sign up for our newsletter or what they decide… our 5 Strategies Series… or what they might decide to do. And that’s the same for you because people will make snap judgments. So you must make sure that your website is optimized for you and your brand with content and it’s the same when it comes to LinkedIn.

So very short podcast today but you know, don’t make any assumptions that because it’s quite a short one it’s not as important. It is because these are two really really vital pieces of the marketing puzzle that you must get handled. And you know, if you want help with content then you know, head over to superfastrecruitment.co.uk. Have a look at what we do, pick up the phone and let’s have a conversation.
