LinkedIn Groups – quite an untapped little gold mine for recruiters on many different levels and that includes search capabilities but also it includes how you use it as a marketing, positioning and branding tool for you and your recruitment company. That’s the subject of today’s podcast!

Hi there listener! Today’s podcast is about LinkedIn Groups, how you might be using them and maybe a couple of little points that maybe you’ve not thought about. I was talking to a client today and we were discussing a promotional event that he wants to run to attract some new clients and just get some buzz going about his new division. We talked about – In the particular local area, he wanted to get some traction going. So how about going and seeing what’s happening in some of the local groups because there’s bound to be a local business networking group within that area?

He had used LinkedIn on a person search on a number of occasions but he hadn’t used it in the group search and it’s really easy to do. Hopefully, if you’re listening to this on iTunes you might want to head over to the Superfast Recruitment/blog and search on this blog post because we’ll have a little screen capture image for you.

Basically, in the search bar on the top of your LinkedIn profile, there’s a little icon that you can press that asks you what you want to search on. Do you want to search on groups? Do you want to search on people? Do you want to search on pages? If you just highlight ‘groups’, this is a top tip, you just put in a geographical name. That might be, there are not very many people in Storth, where we live. However, there might be a number of people in Lancashire, Lancaster or Cumbria.

If you type that keyword in a bit like searching on Google, it will start to deliver for you different search results. You might then be able to find some local networking groups which are really useful. With this particular client we were talking to, he managed to find a group that had basically 4000 or 5000 members locally. Now he could, therefore, within the group parameters, could put some promotion in there about the event he was running. He could start a discussion. He could start some buzz within that group and get himself noticed – key marketing point as well.

One of the great things about LinkedIn and LinkedIn Groups is it gives you an opportunity to profile yourself and position yourself as the expert in your niche by sharing great content, asking intelligent questions, commenting on questions. We’ve shared this strategy with the number of our clients and they always say that when they go and make that effort, maybe it’s just 10 minutes a day, to make some comments, they always get more profile views.

People are interested in intelligent comments. Rather than just saying “Yes, well done” or whatever, you can have some thought process that goes into it. It can really help with marketing you.

Let’s just summarize that – So LinkedIn is a marketing tool then, first of all, it’s going to brand you as an expert and you’ve got that position, you can share content, you can make intelligent comments.

The other thing about LinkedIn Groups is you can search for people and find them. There’s a little tab on there that says ‘members’ and if you go along they are you can find different members and you can start following them. Here’s ninja tip for you:  you can actually connect with them. All you need to do is right-click when you’re on the member’s name and you can actually start to connect with them. It’ll say where you know this person from and it’s from that group so you’re not going to get your hands slapped. This is a tactic that not many recruiters utilise but here it is and I’ve just shared it for you on our podcast so that’s another key thing that you can do about LinkedIn Groups.

LinkedIn Groups are great. We share our content on there sometimes. We make comments and we get a stream of traffic and subscribers that come to us. Now we’re just a marketing company. If you are a recruiter then that could be really helpful for people looking for jobs or you’ve got clients that are hanging out there looking for an intelligent recruiter who can help them in finding the right candidates at the right level.

This is a quick podcast today all about LinkedIn Groups. If you’re not using them then use them. They are really well worth your time. So this is Denise from Super Fast Recruitment saying bye for now!
