Why Many Recruitment Companies Won’t Make This Their Best Year Ever

If you’re anything like us I suspect your inbox might be overflowing with emails from experts telling you how to make 2016 different.

How you ‘must’ start ‘doing XYZ’ if you want to improve your results in 2016.

The truth is their intentions are well meaning only they don’t know you and your recruitment company…….however you do.

Reality Alert: All business owners want next year to be better than the year before; don’t we?

Here is the thing; many people don’t base their decisions on what to do around the actual data or the time scales involved.

They make assumptions and then take actions on what they think they should be doing.

Sound familiar?

What Really Makes A Difference

Here is a better plan based on what might just work for you.

The first thing we do with clients is ask them to review their previous 12 months as a minimum (hint you can do this at any point in the year not just January).

Looking at a year’s worth of data evens out the peaks and troughs and will give you a sense of your business and marketing results.

Once you have done that, what next?

Apply the SSC formula.

It’s straightforward and it stands for: Stop-Start-Continue.

I first came across this many years ago on a management training programme that was based on improving performance as a manager. The great thing is it can work in every area of your business.

The most important one that we see consistently working is; “what are you going to stop doing?”

So often in business we continue to do things that are both counterproductive and waste our time or we invest in activities because we ‘think’ they are producing results.

Here are a few examples.

  • Monthly or weekly networking groups
  • Sponsoring; teams, adverts or events
  • Creating physical brochures
  • Opening email as soon as you arrive in the office
  • Putting off decisions till next, week, month or quarter: #fillinyourowntimeframe
  • Faffing around on ‘busy work’ that can be given to a team member or outsourced

By the way it is incredibly freeing to make decisions like this. There is a saying my mum used to utter that went something along the lines that if I stopped doing a particular activity that something else better would come around the corner. Strange she was often spot on, pity it took me quite a number of years to appreciate it.

The other two areas work in a similar way. It’s fine to continue doing something if it works.

For example, Job boards get a bad rap yet for many they are still a rich supply of leads. If that is your recruitment company; continue investing.  Then take the money and time from what you have stopped doing and start a new strategy as part of your marketing e.g. content marketing, setting up a marketing funnel or Facebook adverts.

What next?

Read this post again and take action on its content it might surprise you exactly what you can stop start and continue in 2016 to improve your results.
