Web marketing is one important activity serious business owners and experts in their field need to use. Over the last few weeks we have talked about lead generation and having a promotional plan for exactly what you want to achieve in the next few months. What we wanted to do is share 10 strategies that, in our experience are working for our clients. You know we are both big advocates of SEO ? These ideas fit perfectly with this without worrying about any Google Panda, Penguin or… whatever other animal they are getting to come up with updates. Use this as a foundation, with the ideas we are sharing here and your results will accelerate.

The good news is that web marketing, using these ideas will not only send traffic to your website, it will also brand you as someone that knows what they are talking about.

1. Have A Blog

I know blogging might appear the hip and trendy thing to do. Maybe it is. The reality is blogging is a powerful marketing and branding activity. If you are not convinced let me give you some reasons.

  • It demonstrates your expertise like nothing else
  • It is part of your authority plan
  • People love to read them
  • You can add images and videos that are engaging
  • Google will actually pick up your images and show them in search results
  • People can share and comment (very powerful and Google loves it)
  • Search engines love blog posts… add the correct keywords and you get picked up

We can’t stress enough the value of this for you. If you want to stand out in a crowded market place then commit to spending time on this. There are bloggers out there in your market that have thousands of followers. It could be you. A famous story often quoted is Gary Vaynerchuck who started out with a blog to help the struggling family off  license.

For our US and Aussie visitors we are talking about a wine store . He just started blogging and working on it. In March 2011, they hit 1000 episodes and he is now a bit of a national celebrity in the US. Could it happen in the UK? Totally. Did it make a difference to the family business? What do you think?

Your website is your stamp of who you are online. In web marketing jargon it is known as your authority site. This is where you send everyone. This is where they get to know even more about you, and sign up for your offers and database and drum roll……………… work with you. So how do you get people to your website and what do you need to do? This leads us to a huge positive social networking website for business owners.

2. LinkedIn

I won’t bore you with all the stats on this one though here are a couple. It is the 15th most visited website on the planet. It also has the highest average income per member. Suffice to say it has millions of users. Not just any users either. People don’t generally share pictures of 3 legged cats. They do however connect with other business owners.

If you want to know the best site for B2B social networking this is it. We get referrals and subscribers from LinkedIn on a regular basis. In fact watch out for a product that we will be launching in the autumn which we are designing especially to help business owners leverage LinkedIn to get more business.

The beauty of LinkedIn is that you can connect with people in so many different ways. From connections, to groups, to testimonials, to sharing content, answering questions to advertising. In fact you might be visiting this blog post because you saw it mentioned on LinkedIn. If we are not connected just click the link and we will connect.

3. SlideShare.Net

This is a website that is still under the radar. Top line this is a content sharing website. You can upload your power point presentations and pdf’s and people go and watch and download them. We have quite a few channels and it has a number of views.  Google seems to like this website. There is also a space to add your keywords that creates a great link back to your website. For experts this is a total breeze to do. For one of our Accountancy clients we even managed to get them views! Anything then really is possible!

4. Commenting – Blog

Commenting is hot in 2012.Provided you have something worthwhile to say of course. If you are going to leave drivel don’t bother. Instead think about your comment and the value you can add to the conversation

This can have a big impact if it is in your ‘niche’ area. When you comment you can leave a link to your website (Hint: it does not have to be your home page), depending on the blog this can have huge consequences:

  • You brand yourself as an expert and people click through to your website
  • Depending on the blog, you might even get a link back to your website
  • Drum roll………… this is a big one! You draw attention from……….. the blog owner!

If that happens it could end up in a beautiful friendship which we will cover more of next time. Ok that is 4 key ones covered in part 2 we will cover a few more. If you have found this useful please like and share. If you are not subscribed just sign up for updates.
